Capstone Foster Care is launched!

The latest news is that Capstone Foster Care is launched!

We are delighted to announce that the operations of Rural Fostercare and Woodside Fostercare have now been merged and that we have renamed the organisation Capstone Foster Care.

This is momentous news for those of us who have been burning the midnight oil to complete all the necessary admin tasks to meet the deadline, though for many of our team of carers and social workers the impact is likely to be slight. The local community-based feel of the organisation’s different offices will, we plan, be maintained and promoted. Carers will still have the full attention of a supervising social worker who is well known to them, and receive – and give - support within a group of colleagues with whom they have opportunities to meet on a regular basis.

So, what’s different, apart from the name?

Probably not very much at the moment. The differences are ones which we hope will evolve gradually and enhance the quality of the service that we offer both to children and carers.  We hope that Capstone is going to become a byword in local authorities for the quality of the care that it offers and the specialisms that it has developed, particularly in the realm of therapeutic care. To that end, the resource of therapists available to work with children is likely to be built up.  It already includes child psychotherapists, play therapists, family therapists, an attachment therapist, life story therapists and counsellors but they are concentrated in certain geographical areas – and we plan to achieve a more even distribution across the whole Capstone network.

We also expect that the website will be a valuable tool for communication and consultation between us all. Capstone Foster Care was set up with a view to helping children and young people recover confidence in themselves and rebuild their lives.  We hope that you share our excitement at the possibilities that our co-operation in this enterprise opens up. We know we have brought together a brilliant team of carers, social workers, administrators, therapists and education specialists and look forward to many years of productive collaboration between us all.
